Blog#3 - Self reflection on social media use during this and other courses

With my limited use and understanding of  what is or isn't considered to be a social media platform previous to starting college in January. I was unsure how much I actually was involved with different forms of social media. I have used many  forms of social media for this particular class , these include Dc Connect, Dc Mail, Gmail, Blogs,Wiki pages (google drive) and personal emails. When it comes to my other courses I mostly utilize Dc Connect to obtain the information I need on course specifics such as test dates, grades, and assignment outlines and due dates. Occasionally  I will fire off an email through dc mail to a classmate if I am in need of help or clarification on something.
I prefer to use Dc Connect And DcMail when it comes to college related interactions. I feel that I have a good grasp of these platforms. The information is readily available and easy to manage and understand. The fact that there are class lists for each course, helps  me to get the contact information for other students that I need to keep in contact with over the course of a semester, or length of a group project. Another reason I prefer these  platforms is because I can access it from anywhere and respond promptly when needed. If I am being honest with myself I probably have chosen these platforms because they were forced upon me to get the information I needed to be successful in my courses. I am actually glad that I  was forced to participate more in social media, because I don't know if I would have chosen that route for myself. I feel that I am slowly gaining a better understanding of what social media can do for me, so I am going to continue to learn about more platforms to increase my social media involvement in the future.
When it comes to social media platforms that I used, I can't say that there were any that I disliked. I did however try to avoid a few of the platforms, the main reason was I didn't really know how to use them effectively. I would have avoided the wiki page assignment, had I had other options I was more familiar with. Reflecting back on this assignment, I could have accomplished my part of this task in a shorter time frame had I had a better understanding of the platform previous to the assignment. Now that I have a better understanding of how the platform is meant to be used I will use it more effectivly for group projects in future courses. I am going to stop avoiding social media platforms in the future, I have learned that some are better suited for me than others but they all have their place in the ever changing world of social media.

  2. I can see how you grew from just learning about social media and now being a more proficient in it. I on the other hand have been an active user of social networks for many years but feel the same way as you. I have learned a lot of things in this course I wouldn't have known from just casually using these sites.
